Supporting perseverance can be as easy as:

  • Cheer for the try! – Tell them you’re proud of their effort, even when things don’t go perfectly
  • Add the magic word “yet” – They can’t do it yet, but they’re getting closer every day!
  • Give them space to shine – Step back and watch them figure it out on their own
  • Make mistakes silly, not scary – Laugh together when things go wrong and try again
  • Show them your super tries – Let them see you keep going when something’s tricky
  • Notice their strategies – “I saw you try three different ways!”
  • Read perseverance stories – Books about characters who keep trying
  • Model persistence – Let them see you struggle and keep going
