April 18-24, 2021~ Volunteer Canada
The National Volunteer Week theme for 2021, The Value of One, The Power of Many, reflects on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals AND the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose. This past year, we have seen people supporting family, friends, neighbours, and strangers, people standing up to systemic racism, and people sharing insights on how to create a more just and equitable society. We recognize the value of the caring and compassion that each one has shown another, and we recognize the power of people, organizations, and sectors working together.
During National Volunteer Appreciation Week TLE wants to celebrate and thank TLE’s Volunteers for “OWL” they do!! Please join us as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. All TLE and CDC Vimont members and supporters are invited to a virtual celebration of our volunteers on Tuesday April 20th 11:30 to 12:30. We hope that you can join us!
We are thrilled to announce that another valued member of the TLE team has been awarded the Freda Hudson Volunteer Recognition Award. Gordon Cook is this year’s recipient!
Awarded in memory of a remarkable volunteer, this pin will be presented annually to an active, longstanding volunteer who has made a “remarkable” contribution to literacy. The Freda Hudson Award was established in 2007. Nominees must meet the criteria described above. For more information visit www.literacyquebec.org
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Gordon Cook as one of our valued volunteers since 2015, tirelessly working at The Learning Exchange with students to tutor up to three days a week. In his capacity as a TLE math volunteer and family literacy volunteer, I have always been impressed with his ability to be so flexible, informative and friendly. When he joined TLE five years ago this month, he wrote on his application that, as a retired Electrical Engineer, he would like to utilize his knowledge and experience of math & the principles of physics to help students studying these subjects succeed. He has done just that and so much more! Gordon’s immeasurable dedication and helpful approach with students have made him an invaluable asset to both TLE and CDC-Vimont. The Learning Exchange is extremely grateful for his contribution to our community and in the advancement of literacy. He is a valued member of TLE’s family of volunteers, his ability to work with so many different learners with a kind and welcoming nature makes him truly indispensable…and quite remarkable.
